Usually ...

... my four year old daughter wants to listen to either songs from the Moana soundtrack or Maine Public Classical (seriously!) when I drive her to daycare.  But this week we were both captivated by the sounds of the “Great Animal Orchestra."  A story about this exhibit played on Morning Edition and we were both excited to identify all the different animals we heard.  It was relaxing…if driving a morning commute can be relaxing.  Check it out!

Ode to The Manta Ray is also an interesting read this week.  Since we’re on the topic of odes, I’ll throw a favorite here – Pablo Neruda’s Ode to The Sea, read of course by Ralph Fiennes. Neruda wrote a lot of odes to things, 225 of them in fact.

Also, some practical tips from NPR on what to keep in your car for winter driving.

Our local newsroom brought in 2022 with stories on business from wharves to Bull Moose, and remembering the events of January 6th.

I’m hoping for a brighter 2022 and hope the new year finds you well.

Until next week,

Mark

Throughout 2022, Maine Public will be celebrating 60 years of telling Maine’s story. Most weeks we will be airing old television favorites or long forgotten gems in a series we are calling “From the Vault.” The depth of our archives is significant, and you’ll be amazed at what was shown across Maine over our history.  Look for From the Vault episodes Sunday and Thursday evenings on Maine Public Television OR watch them online HERE
