Hey there Ed,

World leaders promised to end deforestation by 2030 [1], but this is a commitment we’ve heard before but have yet to achieve. Now we have to hold their feet to the fire and make sure forest protection remains a priority for corporations and governments.

This is our moment to push financial institutions like JP Morgan Chase and UBS to exit all financing of Amazon oil. These two banks are amongst the biggest financiers of Amazon oil and are complicit in major human rights and environmental violations in the Amazon.

Add your name and call on these banks to adopt an Amazon oil exclusion policy and stop banking on Amazon destruction.

Over the weekend, Indigenous leaders led a human banner in Glasgow to draw attention to the urgent call to protect 80% of the Amazon by 2025. The call to action at COP26 has been clear from Indigenous and forest communities: We have to act now to conserve the Amazon rainforest and its biodiversity.

Banks must do their part to protect the lungs of the planet. Over 12,000 Stand members have already taken action, but we need a chorus of voices to move these global banks.

Thank you for holding these banks accountable,

- Tyson

The original email we sent you earlier:

Hi Ed,

As has been scripted in movies for generations, we have to “follow the money” to understand the source of the crime.

That’s exactly what we’re doing with JP Morgan Chase and UBS. These two global banks are at the forefront of banking on Amazon destruction by financing the Amazon oil trade.

The continued financing and investment in oil and gas activity in the region by major European and American banks are an ongoing threat to millions of Indigenous peoples and the planet. We’re calling on these banks and the whole banking sector to put their money where their mouths are and adopt an exclusion policy and exit strategy for Amazon oil and gas.

Tell UBS and JPMorgan Chase to Exit Amazon Oil and Gas now. Add your name here.

This call to action for banks couldn’t be more timely than now. In coalition with Indigenous leaders from the nine nations of the Amazon, our Amazon campaigners are currently in Glasgow, Scotland at COP26. We’re calling on world leaders to heed the Amazon’s tipping point with urgency by calling for a state of emergency and for financial institutions to adopt policies to stop the flow of money to the oil and gas industry.

Despite some of these banks having climate, biodiversity, and environmental policies and screening processes set up to manage the risk of negative environmental and social impacts, they’re still providing investment and financing to oil & gas companies in the Amazon.

A mass of public pressure on UBS and JP Morgan Chase during COP26 and beyond could just be the push needed to get commitments from these two financial institutions.

Add your name today to urge UBS and JP Morgan Chase to adopt a comprehensive exclusion policy for the Amazon similar to the Arctic exclusion policy.

You and I know how important the stability of the Amazon is for the survival of Indigenous cultures and to our fight against climate change and biodiversity loss. The Amazon is home to more than 500 Indigenous nationalities and groups, it hosts more biodiversity than any other biome on Earth, and absorbs an estimated two billion metric tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere each year (roughly 5% of annual global emissions).

Our community of over half a million does not hold back when it comes to protecting forests, communities, and the planet. That’s why our team is confident that together, we can advance policy reforms and market shifts that will benefit the whole Amazon biome.

Join us and help build pressure on UBS and JP Morgan Chase to adopt an exclusion policy for Amazon oil and gas.

Thank you, Ed, for standing with impacted communities and the forests.
