This week brings a mix ...

... of music news and profiles, climate incentives in Maine, a Woolly Mammoth story that is reminiscent of Jurassic Park, and the power of routine and ritual.

George Wein, who pioneered the Newport Jazz and Folk festivals, passed away this week at 95. Coming from Newport, the festivals always loomed large in my cultural consciousness. Wein was often on stage kicking things off and sometimes playing the piano. Friends in the Newport music industry also would run into Wein, who had become something of a local institution. The pandemic cancelled performances last year, but they returned this summer. You can stream many past Newport Jazz and Folk festival performances here.

Be sure to check out WUWM’s awesome profile of unique cowbell maker Uli on our list. Truly a moment one can say, “More Cowbell” authentically!

Also on the list, changing norms in Ireland, comedian Norm MacDonald and his legacy, and how a spike in Covid cases is affecting employees from Maine’s immigrant community who rode a demand ramp-up earlier this year.

And in case you missed it last week, here’s a chance to listen back to our coverage from the day after 9/11 on Sept. 12, 2001.

Until Next Time,
