You can’t bandaid together a broken policing system; that’s why The Movement For Black Lives’ Electoral Justice Project created the BREATHE Act, which proposes “divesting our taxpayer dollars from brutal and discriminatory policing and investing in a new vision of public safety.” Among its many comprehensive provisions, the BREATHE Act would further the work to establish reparations, defund the police, and pilot universal basic income.
