Doc Martin's Martin Clunes stars as famous author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of Sherlock Holmes, in a real-life case that inspired the great author to put down his pen and turn detective. The three-part series begins with Doyle asked to clear a man convicted of animal mutilation. In short order, he realizes that there's more to the case than meets the eye.

NSO Showcase Presents Handel's Messiah

NSO Showcase presents Handel's Messiah, featuring Jeannette Sorrell.

The National Symphony Orchestra maintains a December tradition: each year, a new conductor leads the ensemble in Handel's Messiah, offering a personal interpretation of the beloved masterpiece. Last year's performance — recorded in December 2017 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts — featured the NSO debut of Baroque specialist Jeannette Sorrell, the renowned founder and music director of Apollo's Fire, one of the country's premier early-music ensembles.

Running Down the Ghost Burglar

On the evening of December 5, 1980, Dr. Michael Halberstam and his wife, Elliott, left a cocktail party and decided to make a quick stop at home before catching a movie. Michael parked the car and went inside the couple's Palisades, D.C., home to let out their two dogs. Moments later, the doctor was staring down the barrel of snub-nosed revolver in his own kitchen. The odd chain of events that came next would uncover one of the largest — and strangest — crime operations in Washington-area history.
