... this is a moment when things are fast changing. This week is much in that vein. Mask guidance is shifting, vaccine availability is opening up, food trends are focusing on climate impact. That’s one interesting angle digital food publication Epicurious is taking as they announce they are dropping recipes featuring beef. I’ve also been following on Maine Public PBS the documentary on Greta Thunberg over the course of a year.
Out of our local shop, stories exploring the case for and against parole in Maine, the battle over beach access and how thrift stores in Maine are being piled up with unusable donations.
Final thought this week goes to the passing of Apollo 11 astronaut Michael Collins. Collins’ truly out-of-this-world journey in 1969 is still incredible, and now only Buzz Aldrin is left from the history-making mission. If you missed it during the 50th anniversary commemorations, do check out the excellent BBC podcast on the moon landing — 13 Minutes to the Moon. Collins is featured heavily, with the documentary crew interviewing him at his Florida home for one of his final conversations describing Apollo 11.

Maine Public: Maine Thrift Stores Flooded With Costly, Unusable Donations
In recent years, Goodwill has received a glut of donations that can’t be resold: used propane tanks, broken furniture, old car parts.
Check out Greenlight Maine’s “Elevating Voices” series on Maine Public Television this April and May. The series, hosted by Emmy-nominated Julene Gervais and Kenyan-born entrepreneur Alyne Cistone, shines a light on Maine entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds, highlighting the vast cultural and economic contributions they make throughout the state. Airing times are 8 p.m. Thursdays, 3 p.m. Fridays and 5:30 p.m. Sundays.
