This is a busy week ...

... as all weeks are in news. In particular, this week Maine Public’s Deep Dive series has examined stories across many areas touched by the COVID-19 pandemic. A big shoutout to our news team, who has adapted themselves in numerous ways to keep our stories coming to you as this long year of pandemic life has stretched on. By the way, there’s also an incredible team at Maine Public as a whole that makes delivering the news possible, so they deserve a massive thank you as well! If you haven’t caught up on the Deep Dive, check it out here. You can also sign up for our virtual panel discussion on our coverage, set for 6:30 p.m. March 24. Hope to see you there!

Weaving together stories to check out, I thought the Fresh Air interview with the New York Times' Kevin Roose on the future of automation and work was fascinating, really a head scratcher. In the newsroom we are always following what’s happening with the right whale population, so check those details out. My final pick from the list here is the WBUR story on the recently deceased Dick Hoyt and his son and their incredible series of runs in the Boston Marathon. This story is just so moving and uplifting and we could use a little of that.

One extra add, our Deputy News Director Susan Sharon broke an incredible story last week about a health care failure in Maine prisons. Part one aired last week — listen and read here. And stay tuned for a second piece of the story on Friday afternoon in All Things Considered.

Until next time,

Mark Simpson, News Director
