Dear Aaaaaaa, Ingrid Newkirk started an organization that has changed society's attitudes toward animals and has helped make animal rights the leading social justice movement of our era. Next week is her 70th birthday, and to help her celebrate this milestone, I'm hoping to share with her birthday greetings from thousands of kind PETA supporters who've been inspired by her life's work for animals. Aaaaaaa, will you sign our special card for Ingrid before June 10? It would mean so much to her to receive your birthday wishes! As a PETA supporter, you're likely familiar with Ingrid's many notable accomplishments, including her life-changing work for abused and neglected animals in her childhood home of India. I've had the privilege of seeing firsthand how Animal Rahat—an organization that she founded there—is improving the lives of some of the most overworked animals in the world. From tending to residents at its peaceful, 10-acre sanctuary to scouting hectic streets for abused or injured animals, its team of experts works around the clock to help bullocks, horses, donkeys, dogs, camels, and many others in need. The group provides hundreds of village dogs with spay/neuter surgeries, rescues animals from the gaping wells that pepper India's landscape, confiscates torture devices like yoke spikes, and gets bullocks, donkeys, and ponies out from under heavy loads by replacing them with tractors or e-rickshaws. The team responds to emergency calls from across the state of Maharashtra, untangling birds caught in kite string, freeing dogs whose heads got trapped in containers as they scrounged for food, and giving medical treatment to wounded wildlife like deer and wolves. And through its wonderful Compassionate Citizen program, Animal Rahat is inspiring thousands of schoolchildren—who, in turn, spark compassionate change in their families and communities—to treat animals with the empathy and respect that every living being deserves. Of course, founding Animal Rahat is just one fantastic accomplishment among many! Ingrid has dedicated her every waking hour to making our world a kinder place and inspiring others to do the same. Thank you for your support and for everything that you do to help animals. Sincerely, |
