Five. That’s how many times a slaughterhouse worker struck a small dog with a heavy club. Every painful blow was delivered with no mercy and seemingly no guilt. The dog collapsed beside a pile of others who had been killed just moments earlier.
Pools of blood, frightened animals, horrible violence—I know it’s hard to watch. But we can’t ignore the misery and violent death that hundreds of dogs endure in slaughterhouses every single day.
Their skin is turned into leather, which may be mislabeled and can find its way into the wardrobes of unsuspecting consumers here in the U.S.
Most of these dogs—whose suffering was exposed in groundbreaking eyewitness footage—were snatched off the streets or stolen from their families. Some were still struggling to breathe after their throats were cut.
You can help us end the nightmare for animals condemned to such gruesome abuse.
With kind people like you behind us, PETA is shaking the skins trade to its core and preventing the killing of sensitive animals to make ugly accessories—or for any reason.
