Tell the Department of the Interior: Stop the fossil fuel industry from polluting on our public lands!

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke is again trying to hand our environment over to the fossil fuel industry. He proposed gutting a rule that stops oil and gas companies from pointlessly venting and flaring methane on our public lands.

The Department of the Interior is accepting comments on this plan from people like you. So we need you to speak up now and stop it!

To whom it may concern,

I urge you not to roll back the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Methane and Waste Prevention rule, which was put in place to limit the waste of publicly-owned natural resources and reduce air pollution.

The BLM rule was designed to address the waste of $330 million dollars’ worth of natural gas from oil and gas operations on public lands each year, but now Secretary Zinke is capitulating to the worst companies in the industry and killing these standards.

Thousands of stakeholders, local elected officials, and the public support the Methane and Waste Prevention rule. Rolling it back would be out of step with public opinion. It would also be out of step with two decisions made to uphold the waste prevention rule earlier this year by the U.S. Senate and federal courts.

Without common-sense standards to reduce energy waste on our public lands, taxpayers will continue to lose out on their fair share. Unnecessary methane pollution on our public lands will continue unabated for years to come.
