Trash Talk: Working toward a clean Philadelphia

Illustration by Andre Reed featuring people cleaning up, with the Philadelphia skyline in the back.

Philadelphia has a trash problem — there’s no denying it. The city’s reputation as “Filthadelphia” reached a peak during the pandemic, when trash produced by residents increased and resources for the City’s Streets Department stagnated.

Join PlanPhilly for a virtual panel discussion featuring experts, advocates, residents and more about the root causes of Philadelphia’s trash issues and ways that communities are working together to create a better and cleaner city.

The conversation:

Moderator: Elizabeth Estrada, Engagement Editor, PlanPhilly

Terrill Haigler aka Ya Fave Trashman, advocate and former sanitation worker
Matthew George, founder, I Love Thy Hood
Kyle J. Lewis, recycling program director, City of Philadelphia
Meir Rinde, reporter for PlanPhilly
Shari Hersh, director of environmental justice, Mural Arts and original organizer for Trash Academy
