Time to look ahead…

… to the New Year, and also reflect on the ups and the downs of the past year. And while there were many challenges, our friends at Here & Now remind us of some of the bright spots. Plus, the BBC features some of the most remarkable photojournalism from around the world in 2021.

On the theme of embarking on the new, Maine Public’s Ari Snider spoke to several asylum seekers in Maine who are living temporarily in Old Orchard Beach. While finding stable housing remains a challenge in a difficult market, one Angolan man Ari spoke with is hoping that he will be able to settle in the pine tree state, remarking; “There's tranquility here in Maine. That's why I would like to live here.” A good thought to carry into the New Year!

And we continue our series, Climate Driven, in our new electric vehciel, "Pearl," that will take us across the state as we report on Maine's response to climate change, one county at a time. Maine Public’s Patty Wight has two stories this week breaking down the ins and outs of EV ownership as we finish up our tour of Oxford County. Next stop: Franklin County. Stay tuned for more stories in 2022…

Happy New Year! Stay safe out there.

Until next year,

Throughout 2022, Maine Public will be celebrating 60 years of telling Maine’s story. Most weeks we will be airing old television favorites or long forgotten gems in a series we are calling “From the Vault.” The depth of our archives is significant, and you’ll be amazed at what was shown across Maine over our history.  Look for From the Vault episodes Sunday and Thursday evenings on Maine Public Television OR watch them online HERE
