The first week of classes is over, and slowly but surely, students are settling in. Every fall is a time of transition, and this year, whether they are first-years moving from high school to college, sophomores experiencing AU in person for the first time, or upper-class students re-discovering campus after so long, all students are going through a transition. It is okay to struggle and not know things. It is okay to be afraid and tentative as friendships are forged and classes begin. For students, finding their place, their people, and their path will take time and involve many twists and turns. The key is knowing you are not alone. College is a time of exploring, learning, and growing. For our families, we ask that you help your students transition – not by doing things for them, but by supporting them, listening to them, and modeling patience, candor, and grace. This fall is a transition for families as well, and we look forward to being a partner with you on this exciting, challenging, and inspiring journey.
