Friend,

As one of our most loyal Bitch readers, we wanted you to be the first to see the upcoming Power issue of Bitch magazine. On newsstands in September, you can be the first to get the Power issue by subscribing now.

The Power issue comes at a time when we continue to grapple with a pandemic that has killed over 650,000 people worldwide and an upcoming U.S. presidential election that will determine the next 4 years of our government. Above all, this issue asks: Who has power? How is it wielded? And how do we dismantle it?

The Power issue is also our 88th issue. When we realized the theme would coincide with a common white supremacist symbol, we debated on what changes we should make to respond to that. Ultimately, we decided: If we are focusing on challenging and reclaiming power, we should do what we do best and reclaim it. The number loses some of its power when we are unafraid to use it.

So join us as we examine the revolution of homeschooling Black girls, follow transgender chefs in the Midwest who refuse to be pushed out of the kitchen by bigots, and explore the inequalities that the unhoused in California are fighting against. When we understand that everyone has power and what powers they have, we become closer to challenging the world we live in and creating a better world.

Bitch Media is an award-winning, nonprofit, feminist media outlet. We're community funded because we believe that there's no for-profit way to make truly independent, intersectional feminist media. If our work has to compete with a self-interested advertiser or a major investor, it's never going to be the kind of world-changing, movement-making, uncompromising work that needs to be done. It'll just be another contract negotiated in a patriarchal world. You like our attitude? Us too.
