Food Security
Through World Renew, families receive the tools, training, and support required to plant and harvest not only enough food for their family to eat, but also for their family to invest in future crops and technology. With climate-adaptive seeds and new farming techniques, families are better prepared to tackle the challenges of climate change. Free A Family
When you give a monthly gift of just $27 to the Free A Family® program, World Renew partners with local organizations to free families from the grip of poverty. That means your generosity not only touches a life, it helps transform an entire community. Families receive training in sustainable agriculture and business management, access savings and loans groups, and take part in peace and justice curriculum to work towards a more just and equal future.
Clean Water
Water is, of course, essential for health, but what if the only water you had access to was dirty–including parasites and diseases? We help communities establish safe, consistent water sources like wells and filtered rainwater systems. We also teach families how to maintain proper sanitation and hygiene practices. Your gift will help families have access to the clean water they need to stay healthy.
Imagining Something Better.
Imagine going through your day without access to clean, safe water in your home for drinking, cooking, washing or bathing whenever you need it. According to the World Health Organization, 2.1 billion people around the world face that challenge every day. And the task of providing water for households falls mainly on women and girls, especially in rural areas.
Maria Simona’s daily routine was no different—until World Renew and its local partner started its water project in her community of Barranco Alto in Nicaragua. Maria Simona, like the other women and girls in her village, had to fetch water at the river and carry it on her head to get water to her house. Every day, through the long hours of backbreaking work carrying water for miles, Maria and her neighbors imagined something better.
In collaboration with community members and our local partner, ACJ, World Renew installed a completely new water system in Barranco Alto, making the dream of clean water at home a reality. Now, Maria Simona has a tap in her house, saving her hours of work and giving her access to clean water for drinking and washing. She also has enough water to irrigate her vegetable garden at home.
“I have tomatoes, chiles, onions, peppers, beetroot, a new avocado tree, banana, malanga and chickens. We’ve had a lot of support to learn how to do this, from ACJ and World Renew, and beforehand we couldn’t do it because we didn’t have the water [at home]. Now with the water we can grow our own vegetables,” shares Maria Simona.
Maria’s neighbor is also grateful for the benefits that come with access to water at home: “The water project makes our lives easier. Beforehand we’d have to get the water and carry it home on our heads. It literally takes a weight off of us.”
