Goodbye, ‘Karen’—Hello, Caring: PETA’s What’s ‘In’ and ‘Out’ List for 2021

Where can we even begin? This year has been so odd and eventful that some speculated we were living in a simulation—but PETA’s major triumphs for animals this year were very real.

During the global pandemic, we advocated tirelessly for animals, from stopping pharmaceutical companies from using the forced swim test to getting grocery stores to throw out coconut milk produced with monkey labor. We also launched our campaign urging Urban Outfitters to stop selling animal-derived materials, got more ordinances passed that ban chaining dogs up outside in all weather, and changed the way people eat, drink, and shop as well as where they go (right, no SeaWorld!).

We don’t know what 2021 will throw at us, but we do know we’re setting high goals to help animals. To continue an annual tradition, PETA is welcoming animal-friendly attitudes, trends, and behavior with this year’s list of what’s “in” and what’s “out”:
