Farmers in industries such as dairy and meat production are required to pay into programs known as “checkoffs.” The money is supposed to be used to benefit all the farmers who paid into the fund -- including small-scale and organic farmers. But instead, these funds are routinely being funneled to Big Ag to lobby for regressive policies that actually work against sustainable farmers' interests.
Now, some Members of Congress are trying to change that. Two pieces of legislation are moving through the House and Senate to help ensure that sustainable farmers don’t have to pay for Big Ag’s environmental destruction. We need your help to build momentum for these bills!
